National Poetry Day! Here’s My Contribution

I’ve only just begun to dip my toe into the world of poetry but I have to say that I am already astounded at some of the pieces I’ve read and heard.

As a complete newcomer, I have nothing on some of the great poets throughout history nor the modern poets both famous and not. Even so, I’ve given it a try and here is one I’m sharing with the world.

Some talk of Wanderlust,

of seeing the world,

with Paris a must.

Many feel that urge to roam,

to travel, to visit,

anywhere but home.

I too, could make haste

venture to lands afar,

watch a thousand prismatic sunsets

that might fracture my heart ajar.

But this idea is just not me.

The call, the desire,

the longing to be free.

For I am content,

with a book and a cup of tea.

Starting University

So it has been around 2 months since my last post and I want to get back on track with blogging and as I’ve mentioned before, I want to use this platform as an outlet of sorts.

I’ve started University now and after a few weeks I can honestly say that I am loving it! The poetry part of it which was daunting me to no end has now become so interesting and I’m throwing myself into it which has increased my confidence to write immensely. This is where the outlet part comes into play I guess because I may start to post some poems and other writing bits on here from time to time.

I will also try to put up mini-reviews of any novels that we have to read for the course, although they may not be what most people would usually pick up. I’m also going to try, of course, to keep up with reading for pleasure and I have quite the TBR pile accumulating now so hopefully I can clear some off before the end of the year (I’m looking at you, Goodreads 2016 Challenge, of which I am falling behind)!

Is anyone participating in NaNoWriMo? I might look into it this time but I have no idea what the deal is with it! Please feel free to enlighten me.

Random Ramblings: Update on Things

It’s been a while since I’ve done a blog post on anything. It’s also been a while since I managed to finish a book…

What I’m Reading

I’m currently reading A Court of Mist and Fury and about a third of the way into it and I’m not liking it as much ACOTAR although it has just started to get better so I’m going to try and finish that this weekend.

I did also start a couple of books but didn’t get very far with them so I won’t mention them here. The last book I finished was The Girls which I didn’t like and took me ages to get through so I think that put me in a bit of a slump to be honest.

What Else Is Going On

Apart from reading (or lack of) I’ve had a busy couple of weeks. I got a confirmed place on the uni course I wanted which is great! This meant having to give notice at work which was pretty traumatic as I’ve been at the same place for over a year now and made some great friends. With a month left at work, it’s all go trying to finish up projects etc. I’m really excited to become a student, even if I am going to be a little older than most of the people on my course (I’m 31 eek), hopefully it will be an eclectic mix!

This Weekend

I’m so gutted that I can’t go to YALC this weekend, but I just can’t afford going all the way to London (from Blackpool) and staying over etc. To those who are lucky to get themselves there, I hope you have an awesome time! My plans are 1) haircut, 2) henna hair dye which takes over 4 hours, 3) wine, 4) reading/movies/TV, 5) more wine. Oh also, I got some new makeup/beauty products (all cruelty free) so I’m going to try them out this weekend.

Hopefully I will have a review or at least an interesting blog post going up this weekend (if my ISP sorts out the recent problems!) so until then, have fun and take care!

Here’s a cute cat for making it to the end
